Bring Nature Home: Grow a Wildlife Habitat Garden

There are many ways to enhance the wildlife value of any garden. View successful Bay Area wildlife gardens and ponds, plants for each season and some of the birds, pollinators and other wildlife these gardens attract. We'll look at a variety of habitat plants at the San Francisco Botanical Garden Nursery and discuss their care in a garden setting, and we'll end the workshop with a tour of the Native Plant Garden where you will see many of the plants that nourish birds, butterflies and other wildlife species.

The workshop includes:

A PowerPoint presentation on how to create a wildlife habitat garden, which includes examples from habitat gardens around the Bay Area, plants for different seasons and examples of the wildlife they attract. The program also includes wildlife ponds and wildlife-friendly gardening practices.

Following the slide show, we will take the group to the Nursery where there will be a display of specific habitat plants for an interactive discussion on how to grow the plants, which plants work well together, and examples of which wildlife species they nourish. Plants will be available for purchase. We will conclude the workshop with a tour of the Native.

We will also provide a handout and a free packet of wildflower seeds for each participant.
