The Kill Devil Derby Brigade and Getsome Athletics are excited to be bringing a unique 2 day derby event.
Saturday October 12th
On Saturday there will be an epic all day long individual roller derby tournament. You will be placed on a team with skaters from all over the east coast. Your team will compete against the other 3 teams in a round robin tournament.
One team will win the tournament based on the scores of each of the 3(or more) games.
Registration and breakfast will be from 9-11am October 12th with games starting at 12:30pm
Along with your registration you will get a Team Shirt.
After the Round Robin Tournament we will have a headliner bout between Free State Roller Derbys Black-Eyed Suzies and Outter Banks' Kill Devil Derby Brigade! This bout will be played by current WFTDA rules and all participants to this weekend event will get to attend and watch this bout for free!
Sunday will bring two training clinics; a Jammer clinic (10am-1pm) and a Blocker/Containment clinic (1:30-4:30):
A Jammer Clinic:
Getsome Athletics will be leading a 3 hour training clinic focused on skills you need to know to be a successful roller derby jammer.
This clinic is for jammers of all skill levels, if you have multiple years experience and want to refine your skills or if you are thinking about throwing the star cap on for the first time in 2013 then this clinic is for you!
The three hour clinic will be progressive training allowing you to develop your jammer skills and by the end of the clinic put them to use in scenarios.
The basic schedule for this clinic is:
individual juking skills; utilizing your speed, space and size to get past people
legally getting through a 4 wall, where to be and how to get there
seeing space and taking it; how to approach a pack and how to pick a line
jamming smart, when to call it, when to run it; scenarios of all styles.
Blocking/Containment Clinic:
Getsome Athletics will be leading a 3 hour training clinic focused on skills you need to know to be a successful roller derby blocker.
This clinic is for blockers of all skill levels, if you want to develop your hitting effectiveness and improve your containment skill in 2013 then this clinic is for you! You will learn many new drills to take home with you and practice on your own to continue your blocker growth!
The three hour clinic will be progressive training allowing you to develop your blocking skills and by the end of the clinic put them to use in scenarios.
The schedule for this clinic is:
Hitting technique and getting the most bang for your block
Jammer Soul Sucking....how to suck the life out of a jammer with just 2 or 3 teammates on the track
Mastering Containment
Knowing how and when to play offense while containing an opponent
These clinics will be led by Shorty Ounce and Carmen Getsome whose roller derby skills have earned them both several awards for their blocking and jamming skills. Shorty and Carmen have been coaching roller derby together for the past few years, spreading the word of derby to every corner of the earth!
