Walla Walla Chamber Music Festival: Festival Series II
Chism Recital Hall, Whitman College Walla Walla, WA
Festival Series II features the monumental Quintet in C Major by Franz Schubert. Composed in 1828 only a few weeks before his death at the age of 31, the Cello Quintet, as it is known, stands as a testimony to the short life of this great artist. Lyrical and profound, the Cello Quintet is held in the highest regard by musicians as perhaps the finest piece of chamber music ever written. "New York Nocturnes" for Piano Trio by composer David Schiff and the Serenade in C by Ernst von Dohnanyi set the stage. Festival Series II will take listeners on a journey from predawn Brooklyn, to turn of the century Hungary, to the height of Viennese musical achievement.
