An Evening of African Film
Monday, February 4, 2013
Bama Theater, Tuscaloosa, AL
Tuscaloosa will host its first ever program of African Films at the Bama Theater on Monday, February 4th 2013. Three movies will be presented on this premier night of African movies in Tuscaloosa.
The program begins at 7pm with "Farewell Exile" (2011), a short film (15 min) on South  North migration, set in Morocco and directed by Lamia Alami.
The first feature of the evening is the critically acclaimed 2010 movie, "Africa United"(90min) directed by Deborah "Debs" Gardner-Paterson which is suitable for both young and adult audiences with a powerful message on HIV prevention delivered with humor, grace and tact.
The headline movie is a riveting human and political story set in modern day Kenya. "Monica Wangu Wamere -The Unbroken Spirit" (71 min) is directed by Jane Murago  Munene. It is a story of courage, determination and power for the powerless. Above all, it is the story of a mother's unconditional love.

There will be a reception at 6:00pm. African crafts, art and other products will be available for purchase at this time and during breaks throughout the evening.
The Tuscaloosa Evening of African Film is presented by the Edward A. Ulzen Memorial Foundation (EAUMF) and Afram South Inc., 2 non-profit organizations supporting education and public health initiatives in Ghana, West Africa and West Alabama respectively.
