Vaunda Micheaux Nelson, author of the 2012 Boston Globe-Horn Book Award for Excellence in Children's Literature for fiction, will be joined by three additional speakers in a discussion of children's literature and history for young readers. Local historian Donna Graves, storyteller Kirk Waller and Kay Lunine from the UC Berkeley History Social Science Project will add their perspectives on bringing history to life and selection criteria for top notch children's books of history. Participants will receive a bibliography tailored to the event and will also have an opportunity to explore a local history museum and purchase recommended children's materials.
