About our speakers Jeff Johnson founded Spunk Design Machine in 1996 in his adopted hometown of Minneapolis (he was born in rural North Dakota most of the time, he thinks this fact is pretty self-evident). Jeff has traveled the world trying to promote new design techniques and new models for pushing pop culture to the next level. In its short life, Spunk has manufactured and sold two educational products for kids (Talking Tools and Puffilines). Spunk has also won local, national, and international design awards for its creative solutions for clients such as Target Stores, General Mills, Best Buy, New York Stock Exchange, and Travelers Insurance. Spunk also designs fonts, does outstanding custom product design and often drinks a ridiculous amount of coffee. Jeff currently employs a small staff at Spunk Design Machine. He works within the vibrant design community of Minneapolis, Minnesota and operates a branch office in Brooklyn, New York. Recently, Jeff was featured in Steven Heller's new book, "The Design Entrepreneur" - Rockport. He also is proud to serve on the Advisory Board for the College of Visual Arts in St. Paul, MN. Jeff lives with his wife and two sons in Minneapolis, canoes a lot and savors red wine with his hotdish.
Tim Brunelle has been at the forefront of marketing innovation and storytelling since 1992. He's developed brand strategy, directed films, written and directed advertising and design as well as user experience for Volkswagen, PwC, Harley-Davidson, Goodyear, Porsche, Anheuser-Busch, 3M, Sears, Ameriprise and MetLife (among many others). Tim has worked for agencies including Crispin Porter Bogusky, Carmichael Lynch, Ogilvy, Arnold, McKinney, and TBWA. In 2007 Tim co-founded the agency Hello Viking, which spurs agencies and marketers to grow by integrating strategy, creativity and technology. He is also co-owner and the Creative Director of BannerPalooza, the online banner ad production shop, and a partner in the marketing software firm Curation Station. Tim currently serves as president of the board of the 1,200+ member Minnesota Interactive Marketing Association, the oldest association of its kind in the country. Tim has also played drums in a bunch of different bands, mostly in Boston.
Erin Huizenga founded EPIC when she identified two intersecting needs in the marketplace. First, nonprofit organizations, which face formidable budgetary constraints, struggle to produce strategic, effective marketing campaigns to promote their causes. Second, creative professionals increasingly want to use their talent for good. EPIC meets both needs. Erin wrote (and rewrote) a business plan, built a board and launched EPIC's first creative rally in 2008. Today, a passionate board of directors, comprised of leaders from both the creative industry and nonprofit sector, steers the organization.
