Cheltenham- Nicholas McCarthy Bach & Rachmaninoff
Celebrated pianist Nicholas McCarthy has inspired many around the world with his sheer determination and spirit in achieving a prolific concert career despite being born with only one hand. His historic graduation from the Royal College of Music in 2012 made press headlines worldwide with him being the first ever one-handed pianist to graduate in their 130 year history.

Now five years on, this concert tour will focus on his favorite composers Bach and Rachmaninoff representing the best exponents of the Baroque and Romantic period.

The haunting beauty and poignancy of Bach and Rachmaninoffs music will be performed in the impressive settings.  Each piece will be introduced giving humorous and interesting insights. Including Bachs monumental Chaconne in D Minor and the delicate pastoral setting of Sheep May Safely Graze along with Nicholass own exciting arrangement of Rachmaninoffs blazingly virtuosic Prelude in G Minor Opus 23 No.5.

Nicholas has toured the U.K and all over the world including China, Europe, Istanbul, Japan, South Korea the U.S and South Africa. He is also a popular motivational speaker and presenter.

Join Nicholas for a fascinating and spellbinding evening featuring an important cross section of these great and prolific composers.

"McCarthy was beyond reproach: absolutely brilliant and dazzlingly effective when called for, but in the slower melodic sections and especially in the astounding cadenza his musicianship was of the very highest order."

Musical Opinion Magazine

"McCarthy offers good, solid, forthright interpretations, especially of the works that appear in their original form. It is an excellent opportunity to celebrate this unusual corner of piano repertoire. But where this CD wins most is in its symbolism: an unlikely candidate for piano stardom overcomes a massive obstacle and fulfils his dream despite everything. That can do more than offer pleasant listening; it can be an example and an inspiration"
