The Toronto Globe and Mail wrote of SlapJazzDanny:

"Hambone was developed by American slaves as a way of making music when they werent allowed to use musical instruments. San Diego's SlapJazzDanny is among the greatest hambone artists in the world. He literally converts his body into a drum set."

From an early age, Danny Barber had a call to the ranks of rhythm  from beating on his mom's coffee table, to leading a 60-piece drum corps in middle school, to catching the bug of "Hambone" or Body Percussion after seeing his cousin Todd  doing the Hambone while in high school -- who had learned it from their grandfather, a share-cropper in South Carolina. Danny knew at that moment that it was something he HAD to do, and he is proud to be preserving an art of significance to African and African-American culture.

Danny has concluded that he doesn't have rhythm so much as Rhythm has him. But he has gone with it willingly, and it has taken him far geographically, to: North Carolina, Minneapolis, Seattle, New York, Laytonville, Oakland, Boston, San Francisco, Toronto and as far as Istanbul, Turkey.

In high school 1977, Danny's best friend Russ Beineke picked up a Jaw Harp off of his dresser and made a 'twang' sound.  Danny immediately knew this was HIS instrument. Once he purchased one of his own, he practiced feverishly until he mastered it!

Danny has given much joy to the hearts of people who have watched him play this amazing instrument! From small babies to our most senior lovers of music... he observes the mesmerized looks on the faces of people... This has fueled Danny to the status of play that he has today. He has also had the privilege of recording with several talented artists.

Inspired by 'E'! What is 'E' you might ask... Oh that is Encouragement! We all need it and it makes life worthwhile. Danny loves to share his art as a performer, and he feels it is his duty to ''give back" out of what has been given to him. You can see SlapJazzDanny in performance at:  http://slapjazzdanny.blogspot.com/.

Joining Danny for this very special evening at The GO will be two other masters:

Jimmy Patton: Award Winning Guitarist! His fingers glide across the strings with effortless grace!
