Real Love: Healing the Heart of Democracy (Doors open 6:30 pm; no assigned seats)
Join Congressman Tim Ryan and author/meditation teacher Sharon Salzberg for a Mindful approach to current times.  These friends and colleagues will exchange stories and practices to help us free ourselves for action and service. Participants gain tools for remaining fully engaged without feeling overwhelmed or withdrawn.

For over four decades, Sharon Salzberg has taught the ancient practices of mindfulness and metta (loving kindness) that the Buddha taught as an antidote to fear.   Congressman Ryan has encouraged us all to engage in voting/political action with compassion and connection---qualities they both consider essential to a vibrant democracy.

In her newly released book, "Real Love:  The Art of Mindful Connection," Salzberg writes "Awareness and love are qualities we can rely on moment to moment.  They help us find ourselves when we've lost our way.  They protect us during storms...and help us let go of our preconceived notions of how life should be at any given time."

Congressman Ryan begins his landmark book "Mindful Nation" with "American has always been defined by how we have responded to crisis,  and then explores how mindfulness can boost our capacities to act skillfully in response.

Their dialogue will seek a more supportive foundation of Real Love for our nation and all its people.

Congressman Tim Ryan represents Ohio's 13th Congressional District and was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2002 at age 29. In January 2017, began his eighth consecutive term.  Ryan serves as a member of the House Appropriations Committee and co-chair of the Congressional Manufacturing Caucus. Ryan has authored   two groundbreaking books:  "A Mindful Nation: How a Simple Practice Can Help us Reduce Stress, Improve Performance, and Recapture the American Spirit"   and "The Real Food Revolution:  Healthy Eating, Green Groceries and the Return of the American Family Farm."

Sharon Salzberg is a central figure in the field of meditation, a world-renowned teacher and NY Times bestselling author.
