Lunch N Learn - Stress and Anxiety
Bring your own lunch and we'll provide drinks. Taylor will discuss Stress and Anxiety - what causes it, what it does to your body, and different ways to manage and treat it.
Stress is a normal part of life. However, we are meant to deal with a stressful situation as a temporary thing, whereby the body prepares us for survival - Fight or Flight! When the situation is resolved, your body systems go back to normal. Two distinct things have happened in modern day society to change this process. One is that our stressors don't go away, as with the animal kingdom or cavemen, whereby a threatening situation occurs, you deal with it, and it's gone (i.e. you see a lion). The body remains in Fight or Flight mode and normal body functions don't resume properly, causing chronic disease. The other thing is that when fight or flight occurred in those situations, one burned a lot of energy during the fight or flight mode, then replenished by the body signalling hunger. Today's stressors don't burn calories, but we still eat, thus weight gain and many other health problems begin!
