($20 each day or $30 for both)

Friday, November 16th, 7:00pm-10:30pm
A cocktail reception with welcoming remarks by Dr. Carlos Hernandez (Co-Founder/President of We Are You Project) and Mr. Mike Foldes (Founder & Managing Editor of Ragazine.CC) followed by a musical Interlude featuring Hiram Colon, the composer of the We Are You theme-song, and singer Sophia Angelica, of PBS's Dora the Explorer, followed by a screening of the We Are You Documentary Film (short version).

We Are You
Dir Duda Penteado, Working Print/Unreleased, Runtime approx. 35 minutes; a Jinsing Production (Short Version)
The "We Are You Documentary" examines current Latino culture through the eyes of prominent U.S.-Hispanic visual artists and educators participating in the We Are You Project and/or its traveling art exhibition. Through interviews of various lengths, the subjects share their personal histories, their artistic visions and their sense of place in the American Experience. Not all are citizens; some were born here; others did not come of their own accord, but were children when their parents arrived as wilful immigrants or refugees. Yet, each one has made or found a home in the  United States and achieved personal and professional success. The documentary points out that more than 90% of Latinos in the U.S. are here legally, and contribute on a daily basis to take their rightful place in the affairs of the nation.

Post screening Q&A with Dir. and We Are You Co-Founder Duda Penteado and several We Are You artists featured in the film including Raphael Montanez Ortíz, Hugo Bastidas, Raúl Villarreal, Carlos Chávez, Rosario D'Rivera, José Rodeiro, Josephine Barreiro, along with other surprise guests.

Ragazine.CC is a collaboration of emerging and established artists, writers, poets, musicians, photographers, travelers and interested others, with a goal to promote an eclectic selection of subject matter to an international audience. The name Ragazine was coined in the mid-'70s in Columbus, Ohio, as the title of an alternative tabloid newspaper put together by a group of friends. It was revived in 2004 as Ragazine.CC. Ragazine.CC recognizes We Are You Project as an important element in the ongoing multicultural traditions that began with the vision of America's founding fathers and continues to this day. We are pleased to co-host the event, which will help bring to light the many contributions of yet another ethnic wave to reach these shores.

The We Are You Project traveling exhibition and documentary film represents the first comprehensive, coast-to-coast artistic overview of the current state of Latino socio-cultural, political and economic conditions in the 21st Century. The expression of these conditions are reflected in paintings and prints by thirty-five prominent, contemporary Hispanic artists whose trans-culture and pan-Latino heritage can be traced to many and diverse Ibero-American traditions, including Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay, Brazil, Argentina, the Dominican Republic, Spain and Portugal. Most importantly, each artist or their families have experienced the perspective of being an immigrant, refugee, migrant, expatriate or nomad who gratefully found a new home in the United States, and where over the course of years, attained professional success by expressing both their vision and unique personal stories.
