Women Ballet Choreographers Residency
DANSE LUMIERE PRESENTS SECOND WOMEN BALLET CHOREOGRAPHERS RESIDENCY SUNDAY MAY 7, 2017 12-6 PM AT INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED DJERASSI RESIDENT ARTISTS PROGRAM WOODSIDE, CALIFORNIA
The Second Women Ballet Choreographers Residency on Sunday May 7th will feature open rehearsals, screenings, panel discussions, honors, brunch, and refreshments. Invited choreographers include Dana Genshaft, formerly of San Francisco Ballet; Dalia Rawson, Executive Director of the New Ballet Studio Company, San Jose; Lissa Resnick, Artistic Director of No Strings Attached; Amy Seiwert, Artistic Director of Imagery; and Priya Shah from AileyCamp. Planned participants for our inter-disciplinary panels include Lisa Delan, soprano; and Audrey Vardenaga, pianist/composer. Residency Artistic Director Kathryn Roszak says, The residency program highlights contemporary works by women and enables artists to further develop their choreography while giving them greater opportunity and visibility. We are excited to be adding a Women in Leadership panel which will include Cloey Hewlett, Executive Director of Cal Alumni Association; Elkhanah Pulitzer, Director of San Francisco Opera Lab; and Larissa Roesch, Vice President and Portfolio Manager at Dodge & Cox and board member of the SF Ballet Endowment Foundation.
Kathryn Roszaks Danse Lumiere is acclaimed for adapting literature for the stage, having collaborated with Maxine Hong Kingston and Gary Snyder. Danse Lumiere was selected as one of the top ten performances of 2011 in the San Francisco Bay Guardian for their performance of Pensive Spring presented by Cal Performances at the Fall Free For All. Danse Lumiere has performed their original productions combining dance with drama in the Bay Area at the Herbst Theater, Grace Cathedral, the Asian Art Museum, and the University of San Francisco. Nationally, the company has performed at The Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C., La MaMa E.T.C., New York, and at the Copenhagen Cultural Festival, Denmark. Danse Lumiere was given a proclamation last year by the Mayor of Berkeley for their work with dance, which includes Artistic Director Kathryn Roszak's role as Dance Specialist with Cal Performances. The companys production of Kathryn Roszaks Secrets on the Way, inspired by the Swedish Nobel Prize-winning poet Tomas Transtromer, was presented last year by Scandinavia House in New York City and that same work will be screened at the 92nd Street Y in New York City this May. Danse Lumiere produced Dance on Center: New Works by Women Ballet choreographers in downtown Berkeley for the past two years.
