We are honored that renowned author and speaker C. Nicole Mason will give a special presentation. Dr. Mason, Executive Director of the Center for Research and Policy in the Public Interest (CR2PI) at the New York Women's Foundation, is a tireless advocate for social, economic, and racial justice. An expert and leader on the intersection of race, gender, and poverty in the United States, Dr. Mason has dedicated her life to highlighting and breaking down systemic barriers that stand in the way of equitable outcomes for low-income women and children of color.

Born and raised by a single mother in Los Angeles, California, Dr. Mason first confronted these barriers at a very early age, a journey that she chronicles in her powerful new memoir Born Bright: A Young Girl's Journey from Nothing to Something in America. Hailed as an inspiring, instructive addition to anti-racist and feminist literature by Rinku Sen, Executive Director of Race Forward, Born Bright illuminates the intricate constellation of systems that impede black, brown, and poor children's ability to thrive, and calls for a society that supports every child in reaching their full potential.

Throughout her career, Dr. Mason has engaged in cutting edge work to pave the way for the realization of this society. As the Executive Director of the Women for Policy Network at New York University's Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, Dr. Mason became one of the youngest scholar-practitioners to lead a major U.S. research center or think tank. Under her direction, the Network became a leading authority and voice on public policies impacting women of color, low-income families, and communities of color. Dr. Mason is also the creator of the Lead the Way Initiative for emerging women of color executive directors and mid-level managers working in the social sector.

Dr. Mason's commentary and writing have been featured in the Los Angeles Times, the Chronicle of Higher Education, POLITICO, The Nation, the Progressive, Spotlight on Poverty, Marie Claire Magazine, USA Today, Essence Magazine, The New York Times, Bustle, BIG THINK, The Huffington Post and on CNN, MSNBC, NPR, and NBC, among other outlets.
