Speaker: Bill Dershowitz, Golder

Abstract:
Dr.  Bill Dershowitz will present an overview of the exciting new National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine Report Characterization, Modeling, Monitoring, and Remediation of Fractured Rock. This report provides a resource for engineers and geologists working in all aspects of fractured rock sites. The report presents a fracture-centric approach that takes advantage of both new and well established technologies to better address the complexities of fractured rock characterization, design, and remediation.

Bios:
Bill Dershowitz is a hydrogeologist and rock mechanic at Golder Associates in Redmond, and is Technical Director of Golders FracMan Technology Group www.fracman.com.  Dr. Dershowitz integrates principles of geology, structural geology, geophysics, hydrodynamics, and geomechanics to improve the analysis of fractured rock. He is also active in development of approaches for hydrogeological optimization and uncertainty analysis for fractured and heterogeneous aquifers, and is the author of over 50 professional papers. Dr. Dershowitz earned a B.S. in Geotechnical Engineering and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (Rock Mechanics) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology under Prof. Herbert Einstein.  Dr. Dershowitz is on the Affiliate Faculty at the University of Washington Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
