Renaissance Glory with The Festival Consort
The Festival Consort presents its annual Renaissance Christmas concert at the historic Church of the Incarnation in Santa Rosa on Saturday, December 22nd at 3:00 in the afternoon. Carol Menke, soprano, and Chris Fritzsche, counter tenor, join Joanna Bramel Young, David Hogan Smith, Alan Paul and Robert Cronin in an afternoon of traditional carols and stirring works for recorders, crumhorns, curtal, shawms and guitar -- all authentic replicas of 16th century instruments. Composers include John Dowland, Jean Mouton, Clemens non Papa, Constanzo Festa, Pedro de Cristo and Francisco Guerrero.
Carol Menke and Chris Fritzsche are well known soloists in the Bay Area. Joanna Bramel Young is a teacher and performer on renaissance and baroque wind instruments. David Hogan Smith is an internationally known expert on reeds for early instruments who maintains all of the reed instruments in the ensemble. Robert Cronin is an internationally known builder of shawms and curtals (renaissance bassoons). Alan Paul is well known in the Bay Area as a performer on recorders and renaissance and baroque double reeds.
