Schola Cincinnati presents An Enclosed Garden: Lyrics of Love from the Old Testament
Schola Cincinnati presents: An Enclosed Garden: Lyrics of Love from the Old Testament
GRAMMY Award winning conductor Jason Harris leads Schola Cincinnati in this exploration of sacred poetry and music through composers who deftly merge the frivolity and amorousness of the madrigal and chanson with the austerity and profound spirituality of their church music.
The Renaissance witnessed a flourishing of art, poetry, and music that the world had not seen before and has not experienced since. Composers living and working during this era were provided with a wealth of poetic resources from which to draw inspiration. However, one of the resources that provided a unique non-secular perspective was from one of the most exquisitely descriptive and emotionally stirring texts of the Bible: Song of Solomon, which offers both a biblical view of romantic love in the Renaissance and a fascinating study in allegory. Join Schola Cincinnati, southwest Ohio's premier early music vocal ensemble as they present the mystic serenity and divine resonance of Renaissance choral music through the breathtaking works of Palestrina, Victoria, and Lasso, and others, in one of Cincinnati's most stunningly exquisite venues, St. Peter in Chains Cathedral, on February 10 at 7:30pm.
