Odd Socks - Curling and the Sonnet
Join us Friday evening, February 24 for an exciting Odd Socks held in our newly spiffed up Studio 206.
Two mismatched presenters will explain the mysteries of the sport of curling and the intricacies of the sonnet. Each will talk briefly about their passions. Then we turn it over to the audience to find similarities and make weird connections.
John Benton began curling with his family at the age of 6. He is the director of Curling Operations, Four Seasons Curling Club, U.S. Olympic Site. John will be explaining the game of curling; it's unprecedented growth in the United States, and his experiences at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver.
Mike Bazzett is the recipient of a 2017 NEA Fellowship in Poetry.His debut collection,You Must Remember This,(Milkweed, 2014)received the Lindquist & Vennum Prize for Poetry. Mike will speak about how a sonnet is a circumscribed box designed to hold love, human consciousness, and infinity.
WHAT TO EXPECT: Wine, beer, snacks, non-alcoholic beverages, ping pong, foosball, fun people and an energetic, intriguing presentation that will inspire and engage your brain!
