Play is often associated with children, games or competition. But we "play" a role every day, and some of us are very intentional about HOW we play that role  the role male or female. In Gender Bender, an original theatrical work having its premier at this year's Spirit and Place Festival, The Steele Project along with their guest, the Indianapolis Men's Chorus, will explore the roles we play in society as defined by our gender. Through opera, musical theater and monologues, TSP will ask the questions: Who would we be if we were not forced into a gender stereotype? What about our gender do we identify with? What doesn't feel "right?" What if we identify with the expectations and societal role of the opposite gender? Or even feel that we *are* the opposite gender? Gender Bender explores the struggles we face as we navigate the role society has chosen for us versus who WE feel we are and how we express that.
