Local pianist, Jesse Myers, brings John Cage's monumental work for the prepared piano to the stage on which the instrument was born. Cornish is proudly acknowledged as the birthplace of the prepared piano, when, in 1940, John Cage placed foreign objects like screws and rubber between the strings of the piano transforming its sound into a complex percussive orchestra.
Jesse Myers is a Seattle-based concert pianist and teacher who strives to join education with performance. With a deeply-rooted background in composition and advanced theories combined with the patience of teaching, Myers' recitals lead to a sophisticated yet accessible concert experience. His recitals of John Cage's Sonatas and Interludes have recently been featured in the Seattle Weekly and on KingFMs Second Inversion, and his professional recordings of live concerts are shared for free. Jesse Myers has piano performance degrees from the University of Washington and Bowling Green State University.
