The GALA Fundraiser for Port Moody Arts Centre
Port Moody Arts Centre's premiere fundraising event takes place in the Galleria and Inlet Theatre at the Port Moody Civic Centre.  The evening starts at 7pm with a catered cocktail reception with elegant appetizers by Christine Catering.  Enjoy a drink from the no-host bar while perusing the silent auction items.  Your theatre seat is reserved, so relax and enjoy the reception.

The performance will start at 8pm, and will be one continuous set of approximately 90 minutes.  "Brassfire" features Jens Lindemann, one of the most celebrated soloists in his instrument's history. Jens has played in every major concert venue in the world: from the Philharmonics of New York, Los Angeles, London, and Berlin to Tokyo's Suntory Hall and even the Great wall of China. His career has ranged from appearing internationally as an orchestral soloist, performing at London's 'Last Night of the Proms', recording with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir to playing lead trumpet with the renowned Canadian Brass and a solo Command Performance for the Queen of England. Jens has also won major awards ranging from Grammy and Juno nominations to winning the prestigious Echo Klassik in Germany as well as receiving an honorary doctorate.

Heralded internationally as an outstanding artist, critics have stated: "He played with golden timbre and virtuosic flair" (New York Times)", "a world-class talent" (Los Angeles Times), "it was one of the most memorable recitals in International Trumpet Guild history" (ITG), "performed brilliantly in the North American premiere of Bernd Alois Zimmermann's Concerto with the Toronto Symphony" (Toronto Star), and "he gave the virtuoso highlight of the evening with the Montreal Symphony".
As one of the world's most exciting trumpet soloists, Los Angeles based Lindemann is internationally endorsed by the Yamaha Corporation and performs exclusively on 24K gold plated trumpets.

Special guest performer Barry Shiffman joined The Glenn Gould School as Associate Dean and Director of Chamber Music in September 2010. He comes to The Royal Conservatory from The Banff Centre, where he has served as Director of Music Programs and Executive Director of the Banff International String Quartet Competition since 2006.

At The Banff Centre, Mr. Shiffman revitalized existing music programs and launched major new initiatives in chamber music, orchestral studies, popular music, and jazz. Some of his most dramatic achievements were in the field of new music; under his direction, the music program of The Banff Centre became one of western Canada's largest presenters of contemporary works. He increased the number of faculty residencies, attracting notable composers including John Adams, Osvaldo Golijov, Brett Dean, and Louis Andriessen. In the spring of 2009, he oversaw the coproduction of EVOLUTION, the CBCs competition for young composers, held at The Banff Centre.

He also serves as Executive Artistic Director of Vancouver's Music in the Morning Concert Society, overseeing all programming for the celebrated concert presenter.

Singer/Percussionist Shannon Gaye performs her own brand of R&B and Soul  urban music with matter for the mind.  Her latest original CD Little Wonder, is an acoustic gem with a modern spin.

From the most delicate melodies to sky high, roof-raising licks, Shannon is in full command of her voice.  Music writer James Muretich described her as the slender singer with the big soulful voice  the kind that knocks you for a loop.

When asked about her childhood, Shannon describes tightrope walkers, gypsy caravans and the myriad entertainers who played and performed in her familys dinner club in the BC interior.  Shannons middle name Gaye was a nod to brilliant musician and social activist Marvin Gaye.

Shannon has performed her compelling brand of Acoustic Soul at festivals across the country and has completed sixteen cross-Canada tours.  Her songs have been featured in TV series and films in Canada, the U.S. and the U.K.

Music Director for this event is Kristian Alexandrov. Born and raised in Sofia, Bulgaria, Kristian grew up in a family of musicians where music was revered, celebrated and performed.  At the age of six, Kristian was accepted into the prestigious L. Pipkov School of Music where he completed his musical education, twelve years of intense training as a pianist and percussionist.

Since moving to Canada from Bulgaria in 1995, Kristian has firmly entrenched himself in the Canadian music scene - as an active composer, pianist, producer, clinician and studio musician.   Kristians latest jazz trio CD Akoustika is a firm nod to his roots, the pared down format provides the perfect backdrop for these beautiful and complex compositions, as Kristian effortlessly weaves through odd-metre signatures and Balkan modes.

Kristian has co-written and produced three albums with recording artist Shannon Gaye, and has been touring and recording across North America with Jens Lindemann since 2008.

Join all of these gifted musicians in the Galleria after the performance for a sumptuous selection of desserts. Meet the artists, get an autograph and a photo, take another few minutes to check the silent auction table. Winning bids will be announced around 10 pm.
