Rossini PETITE MESSE SOLENNELLE
Julianne Baird - Soprano
Maren Montalbano - Mezzo-soprano
Aaron Sheehan - Tenor
Brian Ming Chu - Baritone
"Dear God, here, it is finished, this poor little Mass. Is this sacred music that I have written or merely more damned music? I was born for opera buffa, as you well know. A little science, a little art, that's all. Be blessed then, and admit me to Paradise." - Gioachino Rossini One of the most popular composers of opera, Rossini spent the last forty years of his life in retirement in Paris. Composing mostly for fun during this period, he nonetheless produced his two fine religious works, the Stabat Mater and the Petite Messe Solennelle. Choral Arts will perform the Mass with its original instrumentation: an historic pianoforte and an harmonium, creating a sound world that is foreign and fresh to our modern ears. A brilliant cast of soloists who specialize in period vocal performance will add the icing to this brilliant confection for our delight.
