One of Chicago's hottest fashion showcases is set to take place at the UIC Forum Stage on Friday, September 21st at 8 p.m. when students from The International Academy of Design & Technology host IMAGINE '12. Featuring an impressive array of garments by student designers, IMAGINE'12 is sure to impress, excite and inspire. This year's entertainment will feature a musical performance by K.Rose, a nineteen year old phenomenal singer/dancer managed by Queen Latifah and signed to Interscope Records and Epidemic Music. She is the newest face on the music scene who is preparing her for stardom.
IMAGINE is created, produced and performed by the students and faculty of IADT Chicago. Each program at IADT plays an intricate role in bringing IMAGINE show to life including Interior Design, Advertising & Design, Multi-Media Production & Design, Merchandising Management and Fashion Design. From developing a creative logo, assembling impressive stage designs, casting professional models, and designing unique garments, all of these programs come together as a team. Student designs, which are chosen by a panel of local fashion insiders and industry experts, will grace the runway in a variety of categories such as evening, cocktail, ready-to-wear, daywear, etc.
IMAGINE '12 will honor and feature a fashion installation from IADT graduate and locally acclaimed designer Horacio Nieto, whose celebrity clientele includes Candela Ferro -Al Rojo Vivo, Patricia Velasquez - The Mummy and Ana de la Reguerra - Nacho Libre. Since graduating in 2004, Nieto has worked in the Chicago fashion industry and recently opened his own showroom in Pilsen. "Fashion is a great way to be creative and be yourself, but we all have to remember that it is a business as well," says Nieto. "This is not an industry for someone that does not want to work for their success." Known for his remarkable bridal and evening gowns, Nieto also specializes in women's ready to wear and men's casualwear such as trench coats and wind breakers.
The evening will include a $1000 grant contest for alumni hosted by the IADT Fashion Design Department. Eight graduates of IADT have been invited to submit a garment using only white cotton that reflects a 'resort wear' theme. The designs will be a featured segment on the runway with the winner being announced that night. Participants include Horacio Nieto, Nora del Busto, Anthony Stephon Badger, Tonya Pierce, Fraley Le, Randall Hill, LaTonya Williams, Chrystal Alexander, Mandy Schmitt and Lamborghini Syas.
