| Description |
The Metropolis Ensemble led by Conductor and Artistic Director Andrew Cyr, presents the World Premiere performance of Piano Concerto by Ryan Francis (b. 1981) featuring Anna Polonsky, solo piano.
Co-commissioned by the Jerome Foundation and the Metropolis Ensemble, the concerto commands pioneering new compositional techniques to create kaleidoscopic textures evoking electronic music's influence on acoustic music.
Also on the program, three diverse masterpieces of the 20th Century that taken in as a whole, reveal a dramatic series of unfolding vistas of color and sensual images: Maurice Ravel's Trois Poemes de Stephane Mallarme, Esa-Pekka Salonen's Five Images from Sappho, with Kiera Duffy, soprano, and Eric Satie's 20 brilliant thumbnails sketches, Sports et Divertissements, in a new whimsical and ingenious arrangement for chamber orchestra and narrator by London-based composer, David Bruce, and featuring master storyteller and monologist, Mike Daisey.
