"Fearlessness and Directness": Schubert's "Unfinished"
Incomplete it may be, but Franz Schubert's eighth symphony is still a perfect masterpiece, a miraculous combination of passion, darkness and beauty. Jean Sibelius, Finland's leading composer, is represented by Finlandia, a fervent cry for his country's independence, as well as the folk-inspired Karelia Suite and the poignant symphonic poem Spring Song. Seattle-based actor Kurt Beattie, longtime artistic director of ACT Theatre, joins the Sammamish Symphony for a rare performance of Benjamin Lees' setting of The Trumpet of the Swan by beloved author E. B. White (Charlotte's Web, Stuart Little).
