Schubert: A Serenade of Chamber Music
Shy Schubert, awkward in one-on-one relationships, reveled in performing his music closely surrounded by groups of friends and supporters in comfortable Viennese drawing rooms. Fashioned after these Schubertiades, the Chamber Choir of the Choral Society will join with the Ciompi Quartet in performing Schubert: A Serenade of Chamber Music. Piano accompanist is David Cole.
In Schuberts time, accomplishment in music, literature and art was celebrated and encouraged almost everyone in Vienna could play an instrument. Also, the piano was maturing into the instrument we know today, and became a fixture in many homes of the rising middle class, perhaps popularized by events such as these Schubertiades.
In our 70 minute program, the Chamber Choir will sing some of Schuberts lyrical partsongs, either with piano or unaccompanied, and the Ciompi Quartet will perform a string quartet.
