An Evening of Celtic Music w/ Magical Strings, Colm MacCárthaigh & Colleen Raney
Magical Strings - The magic of Ireland in music, story and verse! Performing on their own hand made Celtic harps and hammered dulcimers, with concertinas and pennywhistles, Philip and Pam Boulding will share lively Irish music along with their new compositions inspired by journeys to Ireland and beyond. Don't miss this great opportunity to hear these heart-filled virtuoso musicians and the tales they weave through their music, described by the Washington Post as "warm, graceful and sonically gorgeous!". They have performed throughout the United States, Canada, Ireland and Japan, toured and recorded with Dan Fogelberg, appeared on Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion," and recorded 18 celebrated albums on four labels which are available at www.magicalstrings.com.
Rarely is an artist as deeply entrenched in a musical niche as Colleen Raney able to present centuries-old music with an eye toward current and future listeners outside of the genre. By adapting and developing her voice, at turns lullaby soft and intensely powerful, and by surrounding herself with a constantly evolving ensemble of the best musicians the Northwest has to offer, Colleen manages to credit her background and stake a claim as a serious presence in contemporary Celtic music. Collaborator and master guitar player Colm MacCárthaigh makes up the second half of this duo, which has been touring extensively in the United States and in Ireland following the release of their acclaimed album, Cuan, in late 2011. Dublin born MacCárthaigh is an in-demand session guitarist and bouzouki player who has played with musicians worldwide including Seattle luminaries Tom Creegan, Dale Russ, Aurora Burd, and Leo MacNamara. The pair can be heard on the radio from Dublin, to New York, to Maui, and more information can be found at www.colleenraney.com
