China Quick Fix by Bill Aitchison
China Quick-Fix is a talk and slideshow with Q&A about the phenomenon of the quick-fix, or improvised repair, that can be seen widely on the streets and in homes across China. Aitchison has been photographing them for over two years and has a wealth of stories and theories about them. To him, these seemingly spontaneous and insignificant quick-fixes which, when viewed as a whole, offer a unique way of viewing contemporary Chinese society itself. China Quick-Fix jumps across fields connecting documentary photography to craft techniques, generational politics, decision making processes, the status of public space, wealth distribution and recycling, to name but a few of the directions it shoots out in. China Quick-Fix is an excellent way to hear more about what is really happening in China today and it presents the topic in an unusual manner that communicates some of the creativity that can be found in quick-fixes whilst not forgetting the reasons that require them in the first place.
