Foghorn Stringband

Appalachian music and Irish Traditional Music are cousins. Simple as that. When an Irish audience hears it, its just moves them in the same was as our own jigs and reals. So much so that I chose Foghorn Stringband for our Christmas Celtic Sojourn series of concerts just two years ago. And now they return with us to the Backroom Series. Just can't wait.

This is one of our exceptional concerts and will start at 4 on Sunday afternoon, a great time for a late brunch or early supper. Or maybe just a pint or two in an early fall afternoon. In fact, an old-time session will happen right afterwards in the same space, so bring an instrument or plan to stay around to jam.

The Burren Backroom series is now well established as one of the most sought-after boutique series of trad presentation in the world. It has already created already dozens of memorable, intimate, informal presentations held in a truly atmospheric space which was founded by well-known traditional musicians Tommy McCarthy and Louise Costello in Davis Square, Somerville, Massachusetts.

Hosted by Brian O'Donovan of A Celtic Sojourn on WGBH radio, these gatherings feature core performers from many aspects of traditional music as well as special guests, and conversations around the music. As is the custom of the Burren, it is anticipated informal and dynamic post concert sessions will be a feature.
