The Desert Moon Dancers Middle Eastern Dance troupe, based in Connecticut, celebrate 25 years of near and middle eastern dance, also known as bellydance, in this special show. They will be joined by some of their dance friends: the Mystic Moonlight Dancers (NJ; director Marisa Pierson), Venus Rising (CT; director Gia Khalsa), the Beledi Babes (MA; directors Judith Tacelli and Serene Brilliant), and Judy's Gypsies (CT; director Judy Alt)in this show that is also a benefit for AmeriCares. Desert Moon Dancers started in 1991 and, under the direction of Artistic Director Su'ad (Nancy Barrett), the troupe has performed at many venues throughout the Northeast with dances that include styles from folkloric to modern. Troupe members Hijara (Tony Leshinkie), Astrea (Kirsten Rourke), Rayya (Melanie Estes), Khalisa (Stacy Vanderveer), Elena (Helen Rose), and Azziza (Erica Westwood) will join Su'ad on stage to showcase their variety of dance styles, choreography, and solo dance artistry. www.desertmoondancers.com All proceeds will be donated to AmeriCares -- an emergency response and global health organization that saves lives and builds healthier futures for people in crisis in the U.S.and around the world.
