Pride and Prejudice
For its fifth and final recital of the season, the Cheah Chan Duo is proud to present "Pride and Prejudice", songs by LGBT composers, poets, and allies celebrating LGBT pride while giving voice to the continued prejudice and persercution faced by the LGBT community. The performance will take place during New York Pride Week on Friday, June 24, at 7:30 pm at the historic inclusive and welcoming Church of St. Luke in the Fields in the West Village.

In the wake of the recent tragedy in Orlando, Florida, this recital is being dedicated to all victims of hate crimes here and around the world. All proceeds will be donated to the National Compassion Fund which works closely with Equality Florida, the states lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization to combine efforts and ensure fair and transparent distribution of the donations received to support the immediate and long-term complex emotional and physical needs of the Orlando victims and their families.

The centerpiece of the program is David Del Tredici's poignant "Matthew Shepard" honoring what would be Shepard's 40th birthday this year had he lived. Other works include pieces by Ned Rorem, Laura Kaminsky, Ben Schuman, William Bolcom, Jerry Herman, Stephen Sondheim, Drew Hemenger, William Finn, and more. Two pieces will also be receiving their world premières: Frank J. Oteri's "Prick'd", a setting of William Shakespeare's Sonnet 20, as well as Dennis Tobenski's "This Glass", set to the poetry of Richard Barnfield.

Joining the Duo will be returning guest artist, soprano Kathleen Conroy Cantrell.

Advance tickets of $15 are available online at prideprejudice.brownpapertickets.com. Regular tickets will also be available at the door for $20 ($15 for students and seniors), payable by cash or credit.
