Surrey Symphony Society 40th Anniversary Celebration Concert
On May 15, the 125 member strong Surrey Youth Orchestras and many alumni will gather on the stage for an exciting evening of music.
Conductors Joel Stobbe, Ben Goheen, and Andrea Taylor have put together an exciting program that will be sure to jubilantly celebrate the organizations 40th anniversary.
Lewis daughter, Andrea Taylor, an alumna, continues the family tradition, conducting the Junior Strings. This enthusiastic group is marking the occasion with festive selections including La Rejouissance by Handel, The Anniversary Song by Ion Ivanovici and theme and variations of Happy Birthday by Peter Heinrich.
Ben Goheen directs the Intermediate Orchestras performance of Beethovens dramatic Egmont Overture, Op. 84 and Saint-Saëns My Heart at Thy Sweet Voice from the opera Samson and Delila along with the entertaining Rockin Robin and a Star Wars medley.
The senior students in the Youth Orchestra, under the direction of Joel Stobbe, will perform Carl Maria von Webers Overture to Der Freischutz and the lively Polovtsian Dances by Borodin. A highlight of the Youth Orchestras performance be Concerto Competition winner Jeremy Hos performance of Camille Saint-Saëns Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso in A minor for violin and orchestra.
Founder and retired conductor Lucille Lewis returns to the stage to lead the specially formed Alumni Orchestra in a performance of Marche Slave, Op.31 by Tchaikovsky.
