Ensemble Laude Presents the Young Women's Chorus of San Francisco
The Young Womens Choral Projects of San Francisco is quickly becoming recognized as a world-class choral organization for young women. Founded in 2012, YWCP now includes four levels of choral experience for young women ages 5-18 from across the San Francisco Bay Area. The mission of YWCP is to transform the lives of young women through exceptional artistry in choral performance, and bring the expressive power of their music to the community, the nation, and the world. Through YWCP, participants of richly diverse socio-ethnic backgrounds find their voices as singers, artists, and women in a nurturing environment that empowers them to achieve artistic and personal excellence. The Young Womens Chorus of San Francisco is YWCPs premiere chorus, and has been praised for its beauty of sound, stellar musicianship, and dynamic programming. DzThe chorus has a captivating sound, warm, rich, open resonance throughout the range, great variety of maturity, connectivity, and sensitivity was evident and they are simply wonderful to listen to!dz (National judges of The American Prize, 2014). The young women, ages 11-18, are provided exceptional musical experiences with the Chorus such as singing on the SF Opera stage with Jake Heggie and Frederica von Stade, and at Cal Performances with Kronos Quartet, as well as touring nationally or internationally every year. Since the fall of 2014, YWC has won two national awards: the prestigious American Prize in Choral Performance, high school and youth division, 2014; and the 2015 Dale Warland Singers Commission Award from Chorus America and American Composers Forum. This season, YWC will perform five concerts in the San Francisco Bay Area, including a solo performance at the California All-State Music Educators Conference in February 2016. In June 2016, YWC will take a concert tour of the Pacific Northwest stopping in Seattle to perform with the professional mixed chorus Seattle Pro Musica, performing in Vancouver, Canada, with the renowned adult womens choir Elektra, and in Victoria with the award-winning Ensemble Laude Women's Choir. This seasons concerts will feature two new works written especially for YWC, Qui Creavit Caelum for female voices, cello and handbells by Frank La Rocca to be premiered on December 19, 2015, and A Singers Path by Karen P. Thomas, an a cappella set of songs based on poems by Sara Teasdale, premiering on May 21, 2016, the latter made possible by the Dale Warland Singers Commission Award presented by Chorus America and funded by the American Composers Forum.
