PROGRAM

Stephen Blumberg, WORLD PREMIERE

Mozart, Clarinet Concerto

Shostakovich, Symphony No. 5

Our journey begins with a new work by composer Stephen Blumberg, Professor of Composition at Sac State University. Our soloist is a wonderful musician from the San Francisco Symphony: Jerome Simas will perform Mozart's heavenly Clarinet Concerto. The second half will feature another victory symphony, described by Tolstoy as "an enormous optimistic lift": Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5, which is understood as an artistic portrayal of the times in which it was written.
