April 3, DBS HYBRID I w/ Brandon LePage and Yuri Popowycz
Our first HYBRID concert brings together classical music for the flute and contemporary improvisation for the violin. Flutist, Brandon Lepage, takes us back in time with Classical and Baroque music from the 17th and 18th centuries. Beyond his work with the Detroit Symphony (and numerous other orchestras in the region), Brandon is a deft soloist who flaunts a mystifying tone with his flute. Joining him on the program is Yuri Popowycz, the violinist from the prestigious Oberlin Conservatory. Yuri is a skilled performer of modern music, and is a thoughtful improvisor and composer. He fuses the violin with some creative manipulation of electronics, and will also provide some unusual music by 20th century composers. Classical flute and contemporary violin meet during the lifetime of John Cage, with his "Duo".
