Previously unseen is catnip to independent filmmakers, always on the lookout for unique and exclusive story ideas. In an era rife with compulsive personal over-sharing and instant online news, substantive, important information often remains hidden. What draws indie filmmakers to these subjects and how are they often able to uncover and reveal stories that big media conglomerates cannot? What are the unique challenges of research, production and release? How do they overcome reluctant or uncooperative interviewees, government intervention or restrictions on archive access that can conspire to block their efforts? Join us to learn from three award-winning filmmakers how they accomplish their extraordinary work, against the odds. Panelists: Shirly Berkovitz (The Good Son), Aviva Kempner (Rosenwald) and Hilla Medalia (Censored Voices). Moderator: Louise Rosen, Executive & Artistic Director, MJFF.
This event is free but tickets are required to attend the Forum and Reception.Ticket-holders should arrive 15 minutes early ( to guarantee seating. In the event that a film sells out, standby seating will be available for all screenings on a first come-first serve basis.
