GGG - Crowns, The Musical Play
Called "Rich and varied" by The New York Times, "Crowns" is a powerful, moving and celebratory Obie-winning musical play which explores the themes of individuality and identity, black culture and history using hats as a revelatory vehicle. The work, adapted for the stage by Regina Taylor, is based-on the eponymous New York Times bestselling photobook by Michael Cunningham and Craig Marberry.
This Gospel and Gullah in Georgetown production is directed by noted Charleston theater director, Art Gilliard, the Founding Artistic Director of the Lowcountry's premiere African-American theater company, Art Forms and Theater Concepts, Inc. It features some of the Lowcountry's most talented stage performers, both established actors and newcomers.
This Gospel and Gullah in Georgetown production of "Crowns" is funded in part by the South Carolina Arts Commission which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
