Christopher Hayes: The Harder They Fall
Over the past decade, Americans watched in bafflement and rage as one institution after another - from Wall Street to Congress, the Catholic Church to corporate America, even Major League Baseball - imploded under the weight of corruption and incompetence. MSNBC host Christopher Hayes, author of Twilight of the Elites, traces the roots of this crisis to the 1960's-era meritocracy, in which the public permitted power, riches, and fame on a few, so that they could run things effectively. But those few broke the social contract, and failure and corruption run rampant. The 1% must fall, if not by occupation, then by some other reform. Hayes says the reckoning is nigh.
