Romantica

Join us as beloved local alt-country band (and aptly named) Romantica helps us celebrate Valentine's Day in the River Room. Not only will they provide us with the perfect soundtrack for wooing lovers new and old, we will also have the privilege of commemorating their newly-released album.

Doors at 8, show begins at 9.

Please note that there will not be food service in the River Room during the show. If you would like to dine with us on Valentine's Day, give us a call and we would be happy to make you a separate dinner reservation in the cafe.

Romantica plays lush, richly orchestrated pop-folk made rural by twangy pedal steel. Led by an Irishman, the music contains references to Ireland but is placed firmly in the rich musical traditions of American country and folk music. Their latest release, Control Alt Country Delete, was written and recorded in one day in Austin, TX on March 23, 2009. The result is like a poignant and revealing peephole into the writing and recording process as we listen to songs recorded as they are still being written, the band discussing arrangements as they go and even a fleeting moment of internal tension. Romantica's 2007 sophomore album, America, has won numerous accolades, including two awards from the International Songwriting Competition. PASTE Magazine gave the album 4 Stars and ranked it #58 on their list of the "TOP 100 ALBUMS of 2007". The Onion, Minneapolis Star Tribune, and City Pages have all called America one of the "Best Local Albums of 2007" and it has been popping up on blog "Best of the Decade" lists as well. America was recently released on vinyl and in Feb 2011, Ben Kyle released a duet album with Carrie Rodriguez called We Still Love Our Country that has reached #10 on the Americana Radio Charts. Romantica has performed with Ryan Adams, Alejandro Escovedo, The Jayhawks and Sara Watkins (of Nickel Creek), toured with Carrie Rodriguez, showcased at SxSW and The Americana Music Conference and performed at the Calgary Folk Festival. Their music has been added to the in-flight music on Sun Country Airlines flights as part of their MN Music Campaign. Romantica frontman Ben Kyle released an album of country duets with Carrie Rodriguez in 2010 then released his self-titled debut in November of 2013 with all the members of Romantica contributing. Both albums have received much critical praise.

Romantica has just finished a new album to be released in the Spring of 2016. It can currently be pre-ordered via a Pledge Music campaign.
