Salkind Festival: Salkind Society
4th Salkind International Piano Duo Festival - Salon Series
Inspired by the Parisian tradition of Societies presenting new works, the Salkind Society was founded in 2012 by Sfmf to premiere 3 new works for the 2012 Salkind Festival. Presented in the intimate setting of the Osher Salon at the SF Conservatory of Music, the last program of the Salon Series will feature an introduction by the composers of the 3 works that will premiered at the Closing Concert of the Festival. New works: 2 concert arrangements for piano duo of jazz composer, George Cables ("Variations on 'Lullaby' by George Cables" and "My Muse") performed by The Angelo Duo. The 3rd premiere is "Fantasy on Themes form Rossini's La Cenerentola" by Canadian composer, Marcel Bergmann and performed by The Bergmann Piano Duo. The Salkind Society will also honor the musical legacy of 2 distinguished piano duos who contributed a significant number of works to the genre, A tribute to the American duo, Milton & Peggy Salkind, and The Riga Piano Duo (Raffi Kharajanyan & Nora Novik) from Latvia.

The Milton and Peggy Salkind International Piano Duo Festival is the United States' first and foremost international music festival solely dedicated to the art of the piano duo. The 4th Salkind International Piano Duo Festival (July 5-7, 2012), will showcase performances by distinguished American and international artists at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. The theme of the 2012 Salkind Festival will feature a "Parisian Fete" of piano duo music in Paris from 1870 to 1925. The Festival will also celebrate Debussy's 150th anniversary as well as a Closing Concert of music and composers with a connection to 1812, 1912 and 2012.
