Sphere Ensemble: The More Things Change... (Broomfield)
Sphere Ensembles next foray into musical evolution looks at just how little music has changed over the centuries. This program, titled "The More Things Change..." includes J.S. Bachs C# Major Prelude and Fugue, paired with Shostakovichs D-flat major Prelude and Fugue, written over 200 years later. Similarities in string playing from the 18th to 20th centuries will be on display in Handels Concerto Grosso Op. 6 No. 6 and David Diamonds Rounds for String Orchestra. Pachelbels Canon makes an appearance as the chord progression to end all chord progressions, and Sphere takes on more than 40 pop tunes in 6 minutes playing their version of The Axis of Awesomes Four Chord Song!
