Bambu (and DJ Phatrick) with Ruby Ibarra, Golden Age and Don Prahfit + Ra in Oakland at Club Leo's
On December 19th, at the Club Leo's in Oakland, the art of the Emcee + DJ will be highlighted onstage. A craft that has since fallen victim to performing-over-track rap and push-button DJ's, this night will concentrate on the artistry of microphone control and DJ syncopation.
Bay Area duo, Ra and Don Prahfit have been crafting music together for some time now. With a new project almost ready for release, the MC + DJ/Producer team are ready to deliver their brand of flow to the show lineup! Also joining the ranks and promising to keep the space moving are The Golden Age! For those unfamiliar with Golden Age frontman Do DAT, be ready to witness the ingenuity of an Emcee. As a youth organizer with the Oakland based non-profit, Beats, Rhymes and Life (BRL), Do DAT uses his hard earned skill to create healing spaces for young people in communities overlooked by too many. The Golden Age's backbone, Malicious Lee's well-rounded abilities as a DJ/Producer provide the proper soundscape to accompany Do DAT's musicality. Malicious Lee's neck cracking beats and accurate timing will aid in your understanding of how Hip Hop DJ's are supposed to work!
Beatrock Music's latest addition to the family, Ruby Ibarra has been strategically positioned in the lineup to make sure the energy level is deafening and the technique of the Emcee is displayed in full capacity. Ruby Ibarra has been making noise on the underground scene for a few years, traveling the US and traversing over the ocean to the Philippines to bring her spitfire style and raw bravado to her loyal fans. In the thick of writing and recording her debut full-length album, Ruby is taking a break to help remind Underground Hip Hop fans how to Emcee... This should be reason enough to get out to this event!
After the success of Party Worker's campaign and album release, Bambu and DJ Phatrick took the Summer and Fall off from doing shows to work on new music. In October, Bambu, DJ Phatrick and OJ The Producer got into the Beatrock Music Studio and put together the skeleton of what will be the next full-length LP. With a few elements still missing, DJ Phatrick and Bambu are taking it to the LIVE stage in Oakland's New Parish in hopes of finding a few more pieces to add to the album. Be there on December 18 to catch Bam and enjoy the energetic thought-provoking sets he and DJ Phatrick have become infamous for. The last time these two were in Oakland, they sold the venue out and had to send some people home sad - don't be those people! GET YOUR TICKETS NOW!
At the venue there will be resources at the table to donate canned goods and toys for the Holidays, as well as information on how to get involved with numerous action-based organizations in California.
This HIP HOP event is a safe space for ALL and is pro-People of Color, pro-Womyn, pro-LGBT and accessible by wheelchair.
