Typically, proposals are competitive. To win, we have to convince our potential client that we bring the talent, expertise and attitude that will deliver their project, and deliver it better than any of the other teams. In this session we will discuss how to respond to your client's "hot buttons" in every element of the proposal including the cover letter, project descriptions, resumes and scope. We will look at examples and discuss specific ways of improving them to help sell the job. This session will be interactive, so come ready to have fun, think and participate.
Cinda Bond, founder of "The Proposal Doctors," served as operations manager and vice president for O'Brien-Kreitzberg and Carter & Burgess where she led the full sales process from proposals and pricing to project execution. Cinda has written more than 100 major proposals and led teams in the strategic pursuit and win of contracts worth more than $85 million. Throughout her career, she has also managed solicitation processes, receiving and evaluating proposals for owners. Historically, publishers and editors were the gatekeepers of good content if you wanted to be published, you had to have a great idea, an even better pitch, and personal relationship with the editors!
Today, the publishing industry is changing rapidly and a person or a firm can circulate their words and ideas through a number of mediums. As a result, there is a dizzying supply of content available in a myriad of digital and print formats.
As marketing and communications professionals, we have become the modern-day editors within the firm and are challenged to create content opportunities that break through the noise and advance the firm towards its goals.
In this session, we'll discuss publishing strategies for the AEC industry: how you develop one for your firm, the various traditional and new media publishing options available, and the complete process from creating content through to promoting it through all available channels.
Amanda Walter is a principal at Walter Communications a firm that helps designers and planners build the reputation they want. Previously, Amanda ran media relations across AECOM during the company's biggest transformation and before that she built EDAW's global communications program that focused on publishing its leaders and projects. Amanda's book Social Media in Action: Comprehensive Guide for Architecture, Engineering, Planning and Environmental Consulting Firms, which she co-wrote with online marketing authority Holly Berkley, was released earlier this spring.
