DANCING WITH THE ENEMY - MOJ TATA GENE GUTOWSKI
2014, 65 min, Poland
Polish with English subtitles
Dir. ADAM BARDACH

Gene Gutowski, producer of Polanski films such as Repulsion, Cul-de-Sac and The Pianist, was a teenager during World War II when first the Soviets and then the Nazis invaded his home town of Lwów, then in Poland. With a combination of chutzpah and luck he managed to survive, made it to Warsaw and then moved to the West. After the war, before ending up in Hollywood, he worked as a special agent chasing war criminals, a fashion illustrator and a film distributor. Years later, skilfully balancing between pathos and humour, Gutowski's story is told by his son, filmmaker Adam Bardach. "Life has been an up and down rollercoaster of tragedies, happiness, adventures, of victories and defeats from which, like a fighter in a ring, I would always try to pick myself up to seek and face a new challenge". Gene Gutowski.

Gene Gutowski, producent m.in.
