David Francey
Scottish-born, Canadian construction worker turned singer-songwriter, Francey released his first album at age 45 in 1999 and today is recognized as one of the finest performers on the international folk scene. David's 9 CDs have earned three Juno Awards (Canadian Grammies) as 'Roots and Traditional Album of the Year' and he took home the Grand Prize in both the International Acoustic Awards and in the Folk category for the John Lennon Songwriting Awards. The blurb from the Shelter Valley Folk Festival captures the essence of what makes him so special; 'Francey's straightforward songs tell honest stories of real people and real places. Poetic perception and a keen eye for the heart of the matter are trademarks of Francey and his music. His songs and stories are a direct connection for audiences seeking depth and meaning in the day-to-day.' Hailed in the press as 'one of Canada's best-loved troubadours' by the Toronto Star and ' the closest thing this country has to Woody Guthrie' by Vancouver's Georgia Strait, Francey's peers have raved; from Eric Bogle, ' he takes the everyday, often mundane, business of living and elevates it into something infinitely more noble and memorable' and from Nashville legend Kieran Kane, ' words of eloquence, beauty and charm, hung on a jewel of a voice.' David's latest masterpiece, 'Late Edition,'has been nominated for a 2012 Juno Award and had Penguin Eggs magazine enthuse it was 'like spending a perfect evening with a good old friend and a few glasses of fine single malt discussing love, the latest news and life in general.' In concert, David adds to his open-hearted singing style his superb skills as a storyteller, replete with wry humor and astute observations. For more, visit www.davidfrancey.com.
