Sycamore Slough String Band www.s3b.us (Oakland)

Sycamore Slough String Band is an acoustic quartet founded on a mutual love of Grateful Dead music. Instigator David Gans had the brilliant idea of holding the band's first rehearsals in a recording studio in order to capture the magic that everyone knew would transpire. The song list has already jumped the fence into other works, but the repertoire will remain Dead- centric for the most part. The Dead's "concerted sense of quest" informs SSSB's musical interactions, and a powerful vocal ensemble rides high atop those grooves. These tracks are a little rough around the edges, as first rehearsals tend to be, but the ground has been broken on what is already proving to be a fertile and fruitful musical collaboration."

Dead Horse String Band, www.isaaccantor.com (Hopland)

" When you come to see the DHSB, you will be entertained by the band's musicianship, as well as their great song selection. Playing anything from Bluegrass, to Gypsy Jazz, to Reggae, these four are forging new ground while still paying tribute to Music past."

The David Thom Band, www.thedtb.com (Sonoma)

"The David Thom Band plays hard-driving bluegrass, steeped in the tradition while tempered by contemporary sensibilities. (Which means they can get away with 'most anything they choose, while they maintain the soulful essence of the music.) The band's delight in playing and singing their brand of bluegrass is infectious, and their performances are always Big Fun." Peter Thompson - KALW 91.7 San Francisco

Melody Walker and Jacob Groopman, www.melodywalker.com, (Oakland)

" Melody's soulful songwriting and Jacob's picking prowess join together in a duo that is creating it's own genre: "Americali". Hailing from the San Francisco Bay Area and the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, respectively, Melody and Jacob represent a real fusion of ideas and sounds, with the literacy and musicianship to pull it off. Their voices harmonize earnestly over intricate textures of banjo, guitar and mandolin, as they sing of ancient truths and futuristic myths, bringing their eclectic influences to life in traditional forms."

Grandpa Banana's Band, www.grandpabanana.com (Inverness)

"Nothing but good songs done in traditional Americana style with acoustic instruments. From Blues to Folk to Bluegrass to old Youngbloods favorites. Featuring David Thom on mandolin and vocals and Sam Page on bass and vocals."
