Wheelstock - 24 Hours of Derby for Skaters and Refs
Wheelstock: the grooviest 24-hour skate experience this side of 1969!

Strap on your skates, roll up your air mattress and pack your duct tape, it's the first ever Wheelstock! Hosted by Chesapeake Roller Derby and M.A.D.E, it's your opportunity to skate and play overnight with skaters from all over the Mid-Atlantic.

With beginner and advanced workshops, ref clinics, rookie and advanced tourneys and more, you'll have plenty of opportunities to skate on that world-famous grooved concrete. And come ready to shake your moneymaker at CRD's own Funky Town Open Skate!

See the schedule at http://chesapeakerollerderby.com/blog/wheelstock/

WHERE: Shipley Arena (at the Carroll County Ag Center), 706 Agriculture Center, Westminster,MD 21157.  Parking is free and plentiful. We will be in the large green arena at the bottom of the hill. Google Maps lists the address correctly at: http://bit.ly/IWYAwq

ARRIVAL: Doors open at 2pm on Saturday, May 19!

FEES: Online pay system is closed. Please register and pay at the door:
Skaters: $20
Refs: $10
Saturday Open Skate only: $5

SCHEDULE: See http://chesapeakerollerderby.com/blog/wheelstock/for a schedule overview. Warm-ups will start at about 3pm on Saturday, and we'll clean up around 4:30pm on Sunday! In the middle will be scrimmages, workshops for beginners and advanced skaters, yoga for skaters, and an awesome disco skate on Saturday evening! When you arrive, you'll have a chance to sign up for the workshops you want to attend.

OVERNIGHT: This is an overnight event! The Shipley Arena is a HUGE building. In addition to two M.A.D.E. regulation tracks, they'll be plenty of room on the cold concrete floor for tents/sleeping bags, lean-tos, teepees or whatever else you want to setup for your overnight nest. There will be areas marked around the edges of the building for you to set-up camp. Talk to a volunteer when you check in and they'll point you in the right direction. You are welcome to camp outside the building in the grassy area if you prefer. It does tend to get chilly in the evening (especially on top of the concrete floor). So bring layers to wear, especially for after you are done skating.
Bathrooms: We got 'em. Lots.
Showers: We don't got 'em. We'll all be stinky together. If you have a camp shower, bring it and you'll be popular.
Outlets: There are a few places to plug in your phones/electronics. But we don't guarantee you'll be near one. So bring an extension cord. Or leave your electronics at home...especially because:
Valuables: Don't bring 'em. We don't have anywhere to lock up your stuff. On the plus side, everyone will be in one huge room, so it's unlikely your stuff will be taken unnoticed. But CRD can't take responsibility for your jewels, diamonds, children or excessive sums of cash.

What to bring:
Your awesome, multi-league-friendly attitude! In our facility, we abide by Wheaton's law. Generally speaking, be nice to the refs and each other!
Black and white shirts for scrimmaging
Refs: Bring a zebra shirt, whistle and skate gear. If you don't have a shirt, we'll have a few extra.
Earplugs (so you can get some sleep when you are annoyed by the chatting/echo/music/ect)
Something to sleep on (air mattress/pillows/blankets/sheets/tarp for under your stuff, ect). It can get chilly on the concrete floor).
Something to sleep in (tent, lean-to, tarp) if you have one and want one.
Camp chairs
Skates and Gear: all skaters and refs must have the standard derby gear to play/skate (helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards). We skate on a grooved concrete floor  bring bum pads if you have them.
We'll have some H2O on-site; bring a water bottle to save the environment.
Coolers and ice for your personal snacks/meals/drinks or some cash to buy food on Sunday. (More on food below)
Pajamas, any other fundamentals you need to get through the night.
BYOB  If you are 21+, you can bring beer or wine for Saturday evening's open skate. We ask that you drink and skate responsibly. CRD will ask you to stop skating if you are overly intoxicated.
Some cash to buy from our vendors (House of Smithereens, selling custom vinyl for all your derby needs, will be there. We also hope to have at least one skate shop vendor!)

FOOD: Your registration fee includes pizza on Saturday night. If you can't eat pizza, let the volunteer at the door know and we will refund you $3. Sunday breakfast and lunch are on your own. We will have a flyer with some local options for you to explore. You may also bring coolers with your own ready-to-eat food and drinks. We recommend you bring some high-energy snacks/drinks to get you though a very physical 24-hours.  We will have two water coolers with filtered water available. Please bring a water container.  If you are 21+, you can bring beer or wine for Saturday evening's open skate. We ask that you drink and skate responsibly. We will ask you to stop skating if you are overly intoxicated.

WAIVERS/MEDICAL: All skaters will need to sign a CRD waiver to skate (if you signed a CRD waiver before 2012, you'll need to sign a new one). We will give you the waiver at check-in. The registration form (http://bit.ly/Wheelstock2012)asks for your medical card information. This information is only used in case of injury. If you would rather, you can give us this information in person and take it with you at the end of Wheelstock. But we do need waivers from anyone wearing skates, including open skate skaters on Saturday evening.

CLEAN UP: We plan to wrap up around 4:30PM on Sunday. Please pitch in to clean up the space! You'll need to strike your campsite, throw away your trash. We, of course, welcome your help striking chairs/tables and lights.

We are so excited to welcome you to Chesapeake Roller Derby's home for our first M.A.D.E. Wheelstock event. We'll see you all Saturday!
