Sims, Astronautalis and The Syndicate
A powerhouse emcee for the grassroots hip-hop collective Doomtree, Sims released his sophomore album Bad Time Zoo last year. Sims' distinguishing flow is punishing and aggressive while his lyrics are political and personal. Bad Time Zoo has received numerous accolades and it earned Sims the title of CityPages' best hip-hop artist of 2011.
Astronautalis self-released his first album, entitled You and Yer Good Ideas, in 2003. Nine years and three albums later, he's toured all over the U.S. and Europe, supported artists like P.O.S and Atmosphere, and collaborated with Tegan Quin of Tegan and Sara. Astronautalis' flow is infused with an indie rock attitude lacking in a lot of hip-hop acts.
The Syndicate is a student hip-hop collective from right here at the University of Minnesota. Together, emcees Black Zeus and Tom Blonde create lyrically inspired underground hip-hop with unique style and production.
