The Pete Kilpatrick Band hails from the music mecca of the northeast, Portland, Maine. They have been writing, recording, and performing regularly since 2004 and have released six independent albums to date including their most recent, Heavy Fire (2012). They have been named Maine's best act four times in the Portland Best Music Awards and have performed over 1,000 shows since their formation, sharing the stage with such notable acts as The Dave Matthews Band, David Gray, Jason Mraz, Ray Lamontagne, Guster, Amos Lee, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Brett Dennen, The Wailers, Dawes, Blues Traveler, and DJ Logic among countless others.
Pete Kilpatrick has been writing and performing award-winning music for over a decade, and with the addition of members Ed Dickhaut (drums), Tyler Stanley (keys) and Pete Morse (lead guitar), The Pete Kilpatrick Band now boasts the raw talent and ideal dynamic that shines through on Heavy Fire. "We finally have the right guys in the band, and it's been amazing to see how we play off each other to create the sound I've been envisioning all along, but never could nail down until now," says Kilpatrick.
Heavy Fire has been their most ambitious album to date, featuring Kilpatrick's melodic lyrical style over top of intricate musical arrangements. It was a true collaborative effort primarily written at Pete Kilpatrick's house situated on a spectacular coastal Maine river. Bass player Matt Cosby remarks, "It's a great place to write. If you get hung up on a part, just step outside and sit by the water for a bitget your head right." "We didn't want anything that was just okay to make the cut; every song has its place on this album," guitarist and production engineer Morse adds.
The album was recorded and produced at Red Vault Recording, owned and operated by Pete Morse, giving the band the unlimited freedom to perfect the sound they were going for, and it's evident throughout Heavy Fire from the memorable hook on American Dream to the riff from title track, Heavy Fire. Stefan Lessard, bass player for The Dave Matthews Band, even lends his chops on album standout Burning Star.
The Pete Kilpatrick Band has spent lots of time together in the last year, which has helped them hone their dynamics for the album. "We have learned so much about each other in recent months from playing gigs and driving in the van for hours, and I think that comes across in our music in a big way." Kilpatrick says with his signature smile. "This band was built for the road. We have a powerful album that is true to our soundnow we just want to go out and play it for the people."
