This semester-long class, which meets every Thursday evening from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm at the Puyallup Conference Room at the WSU Puyallup Research and Extension Center will provide practical information about whole farm planning, ecologically-based, diversified production systems, and alternative marketing techniques. Gain knowledge of the practical aspects of sustainable small acreage production systems from a wide variety of enterprises. The course involves guest lectures from local farmers, field trips, as well as classroom instruction. Students will develop a whole-farm plan during the class.
Covered topics include: Integrated soil fertility management and composting with included soil test
Integrated pest management at the farm level
Livestock production based on rotational grazing
Whole farm planning, crop planning and record keeping strategies
Evaluating personal and family goals
Researching marketing and community resources.
Tickets do not NEED to be purchased through Brown Paper Tickets. Interested applicants can contact bbodah@wsu.edu for an application form and bring a check for $260 made out to Washington State University to the first class meeting they attend if desired.
