Tuya's Marriage (at 4-Star Theatres)
San Francisco, CA
Winner of Golden Bear at Berlin FIlm Festival, this film takes a fresh look at an ageless story, a woman's search for a dependable man who can support her. As a result of desertification and the need to take care of her disabled husband, the titled character Tuya embarks on an arduous search for a new husband. The arid Mongolian desert ringed by mountains, and the spartan interiors of tents and houses pasted together from scrap where holdouts like Tuya and her brood live are beautifully captured in this illustrious film. Directed by Quanan Wang Cast: Nan Yu MONGOLIAN WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES/ 86 MINUTES/ 2006
